Operator Call Errors
  • Number of flashes of the alarm light: 8 times

  • Error code: [5B00] 
Solution: Reset the printer
To reset the error Ink Absorber Full [5B00] in Canon Pixma MG2900, MG2910, MG2920, MG2924, MG2930, MG2940, MG2950, MG2960, MG2970, MG2980, or MG2990, you need to put the printer in Service Mode first.

Step 1 - Enter Service Mode:
  • Turn off the printer
  • Press and hold the STOP button
  • Press and hold the ON button while keeping the STOP button pressed
  • Release the STOP button, but keep the ON button pressed
  • While still holding the ON button, press the STOP button 5 times, then release both buttons together
Note: To disable scanner error detection and enter Service Mode, press the STOP button 6 times instead of 5 times. The power LED will turn green to indicate the printer is ready for Service Mode operations. If it does not turn green, repeat the Service Mode procedures.
Step 2 - Reset error Ink Absorber Full [5B00]:
To reset the error, you can use either Canon Service Tool v.4502 or Canon Service Tool v.4720. Since Canon Service Tool v.4502 is not available, we will discuss how to reset the printer with Canon Service Tool v.4720:
  • Download and extract Canon Service Tool v.4720
  • Put the printer in Service Mode
  • Load A4 or Letter paper
  • Print EEPROM information (1) before resetting
  • Use the Service Tool to clear the Ink Counter, select MAIN (2) and click SET (3). The counter value will be automatically printed after resetting.
  • Set the Destination by selecting your region (4) from the options: ASA, AUS, BRA, CHN, CND, EMB, EUR, JPN, KOR, LTN, TWN, USA, then click SET (5)
  • Print EEPROM information (1) again after resetting
  • Compare the EEPROM information before and after resetting to ensure success
  • Close the Service Tool
  • Turn off the printer (wait for 10 seconds)
  • Turn on the printer, it is now ready to use.
By following these steps, you can successfully reset the error Ink Absorber Full [5B00] in your Canon Pixma MG2900 series printer.
