Conditions: The ink absorber becomes full.

Solution: Reset the printer
To reset the Canon Pixma MX510, MX511, MX512, MX513, MX514, MX515, MX516, MX517, or MX518 error "Ink Absorber Full", the printer must first be placed in Service Mode. Here's how:

STEP 1: Entering Service Mode
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the STOP button.
  3. While holding the STOP button, press and hold the ON button (do not release the STOP button).
  4. Release the STOP button (keep holding the ON button).
  5. While holding the ON button, press the STOP button 4 times, then release both buttons.
Note: If you wish to start the machine in the service mode without the scanner error detection, press the STOP button 6 times while holding the ON button. If the power LED lights up green, the printer is now in Service Mode. If not, repeat the procedure.
STEP 2: Resetting the error
  1. Download Canon Service Tool v.3400.
  2. Extract the file and open the Service Tool. If it cannot be opened, unplug the USB cable and try opening it again. After it opens, reconnect the USB cable.
  3. Load A4 or Letter paper.
  4. Print the EEPROM information (click on EEPROM (1)) before resetting for reference.
  5. To reset the ink absorber counter, select "ALL" (2) and click "SET" (3). The counter value will be automatically printed after resetting.
  6. Choose the destination region (4): ASA, AUS, BRA, CHN, CND, EMB, EUR, JPN, KOR, LTN, TWN, or USA, then click "SET" (5).
  7. Print the EEPROM information again (click on EEPROM (1)) after resetting.
  8. Compare the EEPROM information before and after resetting.
  9. If everything goes well, close the Service Tool.
  10. Turn off the printer (wait 10 seconds)
  11. Turn on the printer and it's now ready to use.
