Solution for Canon Pixma MX880 Series 
(MX881, MX882, MX883, MX884, MX885, MX886, MX887, MX888) 
Printer Errors:
  • Operator Call Errors (Alarm Lamp Lit in Orange)
  • Error: Ink Absorber Almost Full
  • Error Code: [1700]
  • Display Message: The ink absorber is almost full. Press [OK] to continue printing. Contact the service center.
  • Service Call Errors
  • Cycles of blinking of alarm and power LEDs: 7 timesError: Ink Absorber FullError Code: [5B00] [5B01]
Solution: Reset the printer using Canon Service Tool
Instructions to Reset Canon Pixma MX880 Series Ink Absorber Full Error [5B00] [5B01]:
Step 1 - Enter Service Mode
To enter service mode:
  • Close the top cover and turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the STOP button.
  • Press and hold the ON button. Do not release both buttons.
  • Release the STOP button while still holding the ON button.
  • While holding the ON button, press and release the STOP button five times, then release the ON button.
Note:If the Power LED lights in green, the printer is ready for service mode operation. The LCD will turn black and display nothing.If the Power LED does not turn green, repeat the service mode operation procedures.
Step 2 - Reset Printer using Service Tool v.2000
  1. Download and extract Service Tool v.2000.
  2. If Service Tool cannot be opened, unplug the USB cable and then open Service Tool. After opening Service Tool, reconnect the USB cable.
  3. Load paper (A4 or Letter size).
  4. Click EEPROM information print before resetting.
  5. Click MAIN to clear the ink counter and wait for the printer to finish printing D=000.0. D represents the waste ink amount. D=000.0 means the ink absorber counter has been reset to zero.
  6. Select the destination region (ASA, AUS, BRA, CHN, CND, EMB, EUR, JPN, KOR, LTN, TWN, USA) and click SET.
  7. Click EEPROM information print again after resetting.
  8. Compare the EEPROM information before and after resetting, and check the value of D (waste ink amount).
  9. Close Service Tool if the process was successful.Turn off the printer (wait 10 seconds) and turn it back on. The printer is now ready to use.
